Connect a Facebook Page to your ContentMate workspace to schedule content, analyse Page performance, and manage messages and comments with your team. You sign in through Facebook, then select the Pages ContentMate should use. Connecting a Page does not publish a post.
Distinguish your profile, Page, and workspace
Your personal Facebook profile provides the login and must have the necessary access to the Page. The publishing destination in ContentMate is the Facebook Page. This connection does not add private profiles or groups as publishing accounts.
The ContentMate workspace determines which team can work with the Page. Facebook access and workspace roles are separate: a Facebook Page administrator also needs the appropriate workspace permission to connect accounts. Conversely, becoming a ContentMate administrator does not grant access to someone else's Facebook Page.
An Instagram account linked through Meta may appear in the same selection. The Facebook Page and Instagram account remain separate publishing accounts with their own content and analytics. You do not have to connect Instagram when you only want to use Facebook.
Check the prerequisites
- Select the intended workspace and open its settings.
- Confirm that your workspace role allows connecting accounts.
- Sign in to Facebook using the profile that has access to the intended Page.
- Check your assigned tasks in Page or business settings. Publishing content, handling messages, moderating comments, and reading insights can require different rights.
- If you manage several clients or businesses, inspect the Page name carefully. Two similarly named Pages are not necessarily the same Page.
You do not need your own Meta developer app, a manually created API key, or a password stored in ContentMate. Authentication and authorisation take place in Meta's dialog. Enter your Facebook password only on Facebook's login page.
Connect step by step
- In the intended workspace, open Settings and the connected accounts section.
- Click Connect Facebook on the Facebook card. If Facebook accounts already exist, a reconnect action is offered.
- In Meta's dialog, check the signed-in profile and the Pages or business access offered.
- Authorise the intended Pages and the functions you need. Deselecting individual permissions may leave some features unavailable later.
- After returning, ContentMate lists the Facebook Pages it found. Check the Facebook toggle for each Page.
- If a linked Instagram account appears, decide separately whether to enable its Instagram toggle. Inspect the initial selection: discovered accounts may already be selected.
- Connect the selected accounts and wait until you return to the workspace.
- Check the account list in settings. Select the correct Page name when using the planner, analytics, or inbox.
You can select several available Pages in one session. Your subscription and account limits also determine how many can be connected. If you see an error, first check whether the intended Page already appears in the account list before repeating the complete connection.
What does each permission enable?
| Area | How ContentMate uses it | Typical effect when access is missing |
|---|---|---|
| List and identify Pages | Find the Pages available to you and connect the intended one | The Page is absent from selection |
| Read Page content | Identify posts and available interactions | Content or reports remain incomplete |
| Manage posts | Publish feed posts, Reels, and Stories | Reading works, but publishing is rejected |
| Read insights | Import available Page and post statistics | Analytics asks for additional authorisation |
| Manage messages | Work with the Page's Messenger conversations | Messaging is unavailable |
| Manage comments | Reply to and moderate comments | Comment actions are unavailable or fail |
| Page events and business access | Receive changes for selected Pages and discover assigned Pages | New events or some business Pages are missing |
The connection requests several necessary permissions together. However, completing the login does not establish that every function was authorised for every Page. Meta can restrict access to individual Pages, and changing someone's Page role later can limit an existing connection.
Allow the initial import to complete
In the planner, the Page becomes a publishing destination. Creating or publishing content requires a separate action in the post wizard.
In analytics, available data is imported periodically, stored in ContentMate, and prepared for reporting. An empty view immediately after connection is therefore not automatically an error. Check import status, the data timestamp, account selection, and period. Opening a chart does not create missing Facebook statistics. See Understand Facebook analytics.
In the inbox, available Page messages and comments appear after they have been received or imported. Connecting does not mean every historical Facebook conversation is immediately available in full. Start by checking the correct Page, content type, and preferably a recent conversation.
Reconnect to restore permissions
Use Reconnect Facebook when ContentMate reports missing rights or an invalid connection. Use the same Facebook profile with the necessary Page tasks and select the same Page again. Authorise the required functions in Meta's dialog, then check the Page selection in ContentMate.
Do not disconnect the Page as a routine first step. Reauthorisation is intended to update the existing connection. Removing an account has wider consequences for its use in the workspace. If Instagram is connected through the same Page, check that relationship as well.
Troubleshoot the specific problem
| Problem | What to check next |
|---|---|
| No Pages are offered | Check the Facebook profile, Page access, and Pages authorised in Meta's dialog |
| One particular Page is missing | Check your tasks for that exact Page and its business assignment |
| Facebook works but Instagram is missing | Check whether the appropriate Instagram account is linked to the Page; Facebook itself does not require this link |
| Analytics works but publishing or inbox does not | Check authorisation for that function and your workspace role |
| The return link is invalid or expired | Start a new attempt from workspace settings; do not reuse an old callback link |
| A message mentions Meta App Review | Send the displayed error to support; changing your Page role does not resolve missing app approval |
| Instagram is already connected another way | Review the offered connection switch and its consequences; avoid replacing a different account accidentally |
When reporting an issue, include the affected workspace, Page name, failed function, and the visible error. Do not include passwords or access tokens. Distinguishing a missing Page from a missing permission helps identify the next step without repeatedly rebuilding a working connection.
Remove a connection
First review scheduled posts and any Instagram accounts connected through the Page. Then open the account list and read the disconnect dialog carefully. Revocation may remain pending briefly; ContentMate displays the corresponding status. Wait for completion before reorganising the account connection.
Removing a ContentMate connection does not delete the Facebook Page. Posts already published on Facebook do not automatically become drafts. To restore missing permissions, use the reconnection process described above.
