Connect your YouTube channel to a ContentMate workspace to upload and schedule Shorts, review analytics, and manage comments. You sign in and grant access directly through Google. Connecting a channel does not upload a video or create a post.
Before you start
- Sign in to ContentMate and select the intended workspace.
- Your workspace role must allow you to connect social accounts. This role is separate from your Google permissions.
- The Google account you use must have access to the intended YouTube channel.
- YouTube must be available in the workspace. If the connection button is disabled, read the message on the YouTube card.
A Google account and a YouTube channel are different things: one Google account can have access to several channels. What matters is the channel ultimately shown in ContentMate. Check its name even when the Google email address is correct.
Connect step by step
- In the intended workspace, open Settings and the connected social accounts section.
- Find the YouTube card. Read the data processing and terms notice beside the button.
- Click Connect YouTube. If a YouTube account already exists, the button reads Reconnect YouTube.
- At Google, select the correct Google account and, if prompted, the intended channel.
- Review the requested permissions. For the full integration, grant channel access, uploads, analytics including revenue reports, and comment management.
- Complete Google's dialog and wait to return to workspace settings.
- Check the connected channel's name in the account list. Then open the planner, analytics, or inbox for that channel.
These permissions are requested together during the initial connection. If you grant all requested permissions, analytics and comments normally need no second Google dialog. ContentMate does not need your Google password; enter it only on Google's sign-in page.
What does each permission do?
| Area | Feature in ContentMate | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Channel and videos | Identify the channel and show existing videos | Selecting another channel can produce different content even with the same Google email address |
| Uploads | Transfer Shorts and execute scheduled uploads | Connecting does not publish content automatically; you must request an upload |
| Analytics | Regularly import channel and video reports | Granting access and importing the resulting data are separate steps |
| Revenue reports | Show available estimated revenue | Only eligible channels with available revenue data supply these values |
| Comments | Read, reply to, and moderate comments and replies | Your workspace role also determines which actions you may perform |
Google allows individual permissions to be declined or later revoked. Uploads may therefore work while analytics or comments still require authorization. Revenue access does not enable monetization at YouTube or create missing revenue data.
Add missing permissions
- Read the notice in analytics, the inbox, or the account connection. It identifies the affected feature.
- Use the offered authorization button, or open account settings and choose Reconnect YouTube.
- Select the same channel whose permissions you want to extend.
- Grant the missing permissions at Google and return to ContentMate.
- Reload the affected area. Analytics data may only appear after the subsequent import.
A workspace member with permission to connect accounts must do this. A role with read-only analytics access does not automatically allow account permissions to be changed. Older connections or previously declined permissions can require authorization again even though the channel is already listed as connected.
What happens after connecting?
In the planner: The channel becomes available as the destination for a YouTube Short. You specify the title, video, and upload time when creating a post.
In analytics: ContentMate imports available reports in the background and displays stored data. An empty view immediately after connecting does not automatically mean authorization failed. Check the import status and selected date range. Understand YouTube analytics explains the values.
In the inbox: Comments appear after synchronization. Select the correct channel and check the moderation filter. Connecting cannot create comments for videos where YouTube has disabled them.
Common problems and next steps
| Message or problem | What you can check |
|---|---|
| YouTube is currently unavailable for this workspace | Check the active workspace. Signing in to Google again does not change whether the feature has been enabled |
| YouTube authorization was denied | Start again if you accidentally cancelled the dialog or declined required access |
| Invalid callback or interrupted return | Sign in to ContentMate and start a fresh connection from settings; do not reuse an old redirect link |
| The wrong channel is connected | Check the Google account and channel selection. Review scheduled Shorts before removing an incorrect connection |
| Channel already connected to a workspace | Check the existing account assignment with the workspace owner before disconnecting accounts |
| Channel connected, but analytics or comments request permission | Add access for that feature as described above; a visible connection does not confirm every individual permission |
| Connection succeeded, but reports are empty | Check the import status, date range, and channel; new data appears after the background import |
| An action is unavailable despite Google authorization | Also check your ContentMate workspace role and feature availability |
Disconnecting and its consequences
Open the connected account list in workspace settings, choose to disconnect, and read the confirmation dialog. Disconnecting also removes the channel's scheduled Shorts from ContentMate. Check your calendar first.
You can also manage the app's access in your Google account. If Google authorization becomes invalid or is revoked, the channel is removed from ContentMate and its scheduled Shorts are deleted. ContentMate handles routine renewal of valid access tokens in the background; this does not require constant sign-in.
