    Manage Facebook Messenger and comments

Messages, replies, comment moderation, messaging windows, and team assignments

The ContentMate inbox brings together your Facebook Page's Messenger conversations and comments on its posts. Assign requests to teammates, discuss them internally, and reply from one place. Public comment actions affect Facebook; internal notes and processing statuses organise your team's work.

Check permissions and select the right view

The Facebook Page must be connected to the current workspace. Messages require Messenger access; comments require the appropriate reading and moderation permissions. Your workspace role must also allow the action. Read access does not automatically permit public replies.

    1. Open Inbox in the intended workspace.
    2. Select the correct Facebook Page. For similarly named accounts, check the avatar and platform label.
    3. Choose Messages or Comments, depending on the interaction you want to handle.
    4. Check search text, status filters, labels, and any other active filters if a conversation is missing.
    5. Open the entry and read its history or associated post before replying.

The connection covers the Page, not your personal Facebook profile's private Messenger inbox. A message sent to your private profile therefore does not belong here. Nor is every historical conversation necessarily available in full immediately after connection.

    Public, private, or internal?

    ActionWho sees the result?Important distinction
Reply to a commentPeople who can see the comment on FacebookThe reply is published as a Page comment
Send a Messenger replyThe person in the Messenger conversationMeta's messaging rules and response windows apply
Add an internal noteAuthorised members of your ContentMate workspaceNo Facebook message or comment is sent
Change status or assignmentYour ContentMate teamThis neither hides a comment nor answers a message
Hide or delete a commentIts visibility or existence on Facebook changesThis is a platform moderation action, not an internal label

Before sending, check whether reply mode or note mode is active. Text intended for your team should not accidentally become a public comment or a Messenger response.

    Reply to Messenger conversations

    1. Open the conversation and read the latest incoming message.
    2. Check any response-window or connection warnings.
    3. Write your reply. Use emoji or an offered saved reply if appropriate.
    4. Review the recipient, Page account, and active mode.
    5. Send with the button or Enter. Use Shift + Enter for a line break.
    6. Wait for the result. If an error appears, do not treat delivery as successful.

Saved replies are text templates. Adjust names, the issue, and any dates before sending. Inserting a template does not send a reply; the subsequent send action is the external operation.

    Understand the response window

Meta's standard Messenger response window is generally 24 hours after a qualifying interaction. Special rules apply to certain approved use cases. A manual support response outside the standard window requires a permitted form of authorisation; this is not a general allowance for promotional or automated messages.

ContentMate also displays a lock after seven days since the latest incoming message. An unlocked composer does not guarantee that Meta will accept a response outside the standard window. Check the actual send result. Your own reply does not extend the window in the same way as a new message from the other person.

When the window displayed by ContentMate expires, you can still add an internal note or use the offered link to open the conversation on the platform. Meta's rules continue to apply there. Reconnecting the Page does not reset a conversation's messaging window.

    Reply to and like comments

Select Comments, open the relevant post, and click Reply on the intended comment. Enter your response in that comment's input and send it. The response is associated with the comment; in a long thread, check that you are addressing the correct person.

The heart button lets your Page like a Facebook comment and remove that like. The comment API does not automatically provide the same reaction selection as Facebook's native interface. Use React on Facebook, where offered, for additional reactions.

The interface may show an action immediately and roll it back if the platform rejects it. The confirmed result matters more than a briefly changed heart icon or a temporary increase in a counter.

    Edit, hide, and delete comments

    Edit your own comment

For your own comments or Page replies, use the offered Edit action. Change the text and save with the checkmark, or cancel with the X. Saving changes the text on Facebook. You cannot rewrite another person's comment into wording of your choice.

    Hide and show again

Choose the crossed-out eye to hide a comment. ContentMate marks it as hidden while keeping it visible to your team. The eye action can show it again, provided Facebook permits the operation for that comment.

Hiding is not complete deletion: on Facebook, the author and their friends may still be able to see the hidden comment. Do not interpret the action as a guarantee that nobody can see the content. A constructive reply may be more appropriate than moderation for criticism; apply your community rules to the situation.

    Delete

When a Delete action is available, read its confirmation before continuing. The comment is removed on Facebook, not simply from your personal view. ContentMate cannot reverse deletion with a “Show” action. Check the author and content carefully: editing your own reply and moderating another person's comment are different operations.

    Organise teamwork

Use assignment to choose the responsible person. Open, In progress, and Resolved describe your team's workflow. Resolving a conversation does not delete it from Facebook; an open conversation is not necessarily unread.

Use labels for subjects such as orders, questions, or complaints. Combine them with search and status filters when needed. An internal note is useful for teammate questions, summaries, or information that should not be sent externally. Assigning a conversation does not itself send the customer a message.

For example, a teammate can assign a delivery question to the responsible colleague, add an internal note with the order reference, and leave the conversation in progress. The external customer receives a response only when someone sends one in reply mode. After the actual reply, the team can resolve the request according to its workflow.

    Common problems

    ProblemWhat to check
Messenger is missing but comments workCheck messaging authorisation and the selected interaction type
Comments are visible but replying failsCheck moderation permission, workspace rights, and whether the comment still exists
The reply window expiredUse an internal note or platform link; repeated sends or reconnection do not reopen it
A conversation seems to have disappearedReset account selection, search, status, labels, and other filters
The thread may show the wrong postCheck the post preview and platform link before sending a public response
A moderation action rolled backRead the error; Facebook may have rejected the change
Comment totals differ from analyticsInbox content and analytics counters have different timestamps and collection rules

Analytics is not a live count of the visible inbox. It reports imported and aggregated data; the inbox lets you work with individual available interactions. The Facebook metrics guide explains these distinctions.

When requesting help, include the Page name, interaction type, visible error, and whether the problem concerns reading, replying, or moderation. Avoid copying private customer messages unnecessarily. A failed comment reply and an expired Messenger window need different remedies even when both appear in the inbox.
