ContentMate supports exactly one video or a photo post containing up to 35 images for TikTok. You can publish directly or send content to the TikTok app and finish it there. This guide explains media requirements, text, visibility, interactions, disclosures and what happens after you start.
Prepare and select the account
First connect your TikTok account. Open the planner, create a post and select one TikTok account as the destination. Check the displayed creator identity. Options are specific to each account, so use separate posts for multiple TikTok accounts.
Wait for creator information to load. This includes the maximum video length and available visibility choices. If TikTok returns no publishing options, ContentMate cannot proceed. A technical connection does not override a TikTok account restriction.
Media and file limits
| Content | What to use in ContentMate | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Video | Exactly one MP4 or MOV file, up to 100 MiB | At least 3 seconds; observe the creator's displayed maximum duration |
| Photo | JPEG, up to 8 MiB per file | Check the preview, particularly cropping and readability |
| Photo post | 1 to 35 photos | Their order determines the sequence; the first image is sent as the cover |
| Mixed selection | Not supported | Put videos and photos in separate posts |
| Text only | Not supported | Add a video or at least one photo |
The sizes above are the current ContentMate upload limits. TikTok's own interface allows some larger files and additional formats; that does not mean those files can be uploaded to ContentMate unchanged. A file in the media library has not yet been uploaded to TikTok either.
For videos, TikTok additionally specifies 23 to 60 frames per second and 360 to 4,096 pixels on each side. MP4 with H.264 is a suitable export choice. The displayed creator limit remains decisive for duration. See the TikTok Media Transfer Guide for the platform's technical requirements.
Example: A four-minute video is 80 MiB. The file meets the size limit, but cannot be scheduled if the selected account allows only 180 seconds. File size and video duration are independent checks.
Caption, title and description
| Field | Use | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Video text | Sent as the TikTok video caption when publishing directly | 2,200 UTF-16 units |
| Photo title | Optional separate title for the photo post | 90 UTF-16 units |
| Photo description | Separate description for the photo post | 4,000 UTF-16 units |
The counter measures UTF-16 units. Most common letters use one unit, while some emoji use two or more. Text with relatively few visible characters can therefore reach the limit sooner than expected. Hashtags, mentions, spaces and line breaks all count. Shorten the text if validation reports a limit.
Video captions and photo titles are different fields. Do not assume a photo description will fit when changing the media to a video. These limits match the current video and photo interfaces.
Choose a publishing mode
Direct post
ContentMate transfers the media and supported settings to TikTok. TikTok processes the content and publishes it with the selected visibility. This requires direct publishing permission. “Direct” means that you do not need to confirm the post afterwards in the TikTok app; processing can still take time.
Send to TikTok inbox
You receive a notification in the TikTok app, open the draft there, and finish editing and publishing. This is separate from the ContentMate inbox.
| Content | Transferred to TikTok | Complete or confirm in TikTok afterwards |
|---|---|---|
| Video | The video | Caption, visibility, interactions and disclosures |
| Photos | Photos, optional title and description | Visibility, interactions, disclosures and other settings |
The video text entered in ContentMate is only a copy reference in this mode. Even if the form asks for visibility and other options, these settings are not transferred with an inbox upload. The final review therefore shows which details need to be set in TikTok later. TikTok explains the process in its upload guide.
Select visibility
Under Who can view this post, choose one of the options supplied by TikTok:
- Everyone: Publish for a public audience.
- Friends: Accounts where you follow each other.
- Followers: People who follow the creator, if this option is available.
- Only me: Only the creator can view the post.
No visibility is preselected. The available choices depend on the account. For direct publishing, ContentMate checks your selection again when a scheduled job runs. If you change privacy settings in TikTok and that option is no longer available, update the post. ContentMate does not independently switch to another visibility.
Comments, Duet and Stitch
Allow comments controls whether other users may comment on the post. Allow Duet and Allow Stitch are available for videos and permit those forms of reuse in TikTok.
These options start switched off. If the TikTok account blocks them, they remain disabled. A setting on an individual post cannot override an account-wide restriction. Allowing comments also does not enable TikTok comment moderation in ContentMate; reply to and moderate TikTok comments in TikTok.
Commercial disclosures and AI labels
If you enable Disclose commercial content, choose at least one applicable option:
- Your brand: You are promoting yourself or your own business.
- Branded content: The post promotes another brand in exchange for payment or another benefit.
- Both: Both can apply; the interface then shows the paid partnership label.
ContentMate permits branded content only with Everyone or Friends visibility. Change an incompatible visibility selection. If the account offers neither suitable option, this combination is unavailable.
The AI-generated content option is sent as a label for directly published videos. The current ContentMate photo publishing flow does not transfer this label, even when the option is visible. For AI photos requiring a label, send the content to the TikTok app and set the label there. In inbox mode, always make the final disclosure choices in TikTok.
Music for photo posts
Automatically add music allows TikTok to add recommended music to a directly published photo post. You do not select a specific song in ContentMate. This photo option is not available for videos; existing audio is part of the video file. For uploads completed in the TikTok app, choose music there.
Read the music usage confirmation and, where applicable, the branded content notice shown before publishing. An automatic music choice does not replace checking which use is permitted for your content. The interface follows TikTok's content sharing requirements.
Review, schedule and confirm the upload
- Check the account, media, order and preview.
- Review text, publishing mode and all TikTok settings.
- Choose immediate execution or a date and time; check the timezone used by the planner.
- Read the summary of the data that will actually be transferred.
- Confirm I consent to upload this content to TikTok.
- Start publishing or save the scheduled job.
The confirmation applies to the selected content and destination account. Changing the account, media or mode resets it, so you must confirm again.
Scheduling: ContentMate starts the transfer to TikTok at the scheduled time. Processing and platform checks happen afterwards. A post scheduled for 18:00 is therefore not guaranteed to become visible at exactly 18:00. Inbox mode additionally requires you to finish publishing in TikTok. Uploading to ContentMate's media library earlier does not replace this step.
Understand status and errors
| Status or problem | Meaning and next step |
|---|---|
| Upload or download in progress | TikTok is receiving the media; wait for the existing job |
| Sent to TikTok inbox | The handoff succeeded; open it in the TikTok app and publish there |
| Publishing complete | TikTok confirmed publication; the selected visibility still applies |
| File format, duration or dimensions rejected | Correct the file and check the account and media limits |
| Authorisation removed | Reconnect the same account and grant the required access |
| Visibility no longer available | Load current creator settings and update the post |
| Too many posts or pending uploads | Review outstanding TikTok drafts and retry after the restriction has passed |
| Processing takes unusually long | Check the TikTok profile or notifications before sending the same content again |
A missing final status does not prove that TikTok never received the content. Avoid creating duplicates by repeatedly resubmitting without checking. Cancelling a transfer is also not possible at every stage of processing.
